Sixty seconds of arithmetic
Mental math is a one-minute drill of addition, subtraction, and multiplication. You answer as many as you can. A wrong answer does not count. Your best number of correct answers is saved on this device. Nothing is sent anywhere. Speed here is practice at this drill. It is not a measure of mathematical ability in any broader sense, not a placement test, and not an intelligence score. Adults who have not multiplied in public for a decade often stumble and then speed up within a few sessions. That curve is familiarity, not a new mind.
The problems are meant to be solvable without paper if you keep your nerve. If you freeze, you are probably trying to protect a perfect run. The drill does not need a perfect run. It needs correct answers. Skipping is not offered, so a stuck problem costs time, which is the real penalty. Guessing wildly pollutes nothing except your own count, because wrong answers add zero. Calm is faster than panic after the first week. The first session can be written off as remembering where the keys are, including the keys in your head.
What improvement means
You will get better if you repeat the drill. You are learning the task: which facts are rusty, which mistakes you make when you rush a carry, how to recover without losing the rest of the minute. That is near transfer, the kind Mindz believes in. It is not evidence that your reasoning in general has been upgraded, and it is not evidence about your mental age. Mental age does not contain an arithmetic weight. A high score should not be used to swagger at the age, and a low score should not be used to apologize for it. They are different rooms.
If you enjoy numbers, the number memory game is a different pleasure: span, not calculation. The logic test includes a few numerical traps, including the classic bat-and-ball item, which punishes a fast story. People who are quick on this drill still miss that item, because speed and the right model are not the same skill. Missing it is ordinary. The logic page says so. Together, the drill and the test are a nice demonstration that quick and careful are tools you pick up separately. The thinker quiz will try to name that. You do not have to let it.
A deliberate contrast with the flagship test
The mental age test takes several minutes and asks about weekends, plans, and other people. There is no correct option. The math drill takes one minute and has a correct option every time. Mindz puts them on the same site so you can feel the difference between a mirror and a key. Both can be interesting. Only one of them is the center of the product, because only one of them answers the question people actually type into a search box, and only one of them needs a long disclaimer about metaphor. The drill's disclaimer is shorter: this is practice, not a verdict.
Use the drill when you want a sharp, finite visit. Use the test when you want a reading you might discuss. Do not alternate them in a loop as a homemade cognitive battery. Homemade batteries are how people frighten themselves without norms, protocols, or a reason. One drill, occasionally, is play. A daily drill for a week is practice, if you like practice. A daily drill to prove you are not declining is anxiety wearing a lab coat. If that is the motive, stop, and if the fear is about real changes in thinking, talk to a clinician instead of raising the best score.
After the minute
Write nothing if you do not want a journal of arithmetic. The best score is already stored. Try once more only if the first minute was a warm-up you do not recognize. Then stop, because the third minute is usually worse and feels like a judgment. It is fatigue. Fatigue is not a trait.
Next, if you stay on Mindz, open mental age. That is the standing suggestion on every side page, and it is intentional. Open the random number tool only if you need a bounded integer for a game of your own. It is not a coach. Open reaction time if you want speed with no correctness. Open the article on reaction and the article on brain games if you want to read why clocks and scores feel more objective than they are. The dashboard will show the math best beside other local numbers. Delete the set when you want a clean browser. The drill will still be here, anonymous, the next time you want sixty seconds.
